Buchanan’s history

Buchanan became an incorporated village on June 11, 1907. It sits within the Rural Municipality of Buchanan No. 304 in Saskatchewan's Census Division No. 9.

The village took its name from Robert Buchanan, a local rancher who died in 1919.

Buchanan counts among its notable people Lois Hole (1929–2005), a writer, businesswoman and politician who went on to serve as the 15th Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, and Michel Hrynchyshyn, a Ukrainian Catholic bishop.
